Its weathered sulphide apron has shimmering water escaping from between blocks. The sides of the mound are steep to vertical in places and also have shimmering water escaping from cracks. 5-1 m thick, have rounded anhydrite encrusted bases. They jut out of the near-vertical wall of the mound at 5, 15 and 25 m above the surrounding seafloor. One flange has active sulphide chimneys on top venting black fluid and an anhydrite crust on its lower surface. The top of the Saracen's Head mound is rounded with a diameter of about 5m.
