The neo-liberal scheme has worsened the situation of initial inequality in which the different regions (with big differences in amounts of capital and natural resources) must confront the market. The lack of protection by the state to agriculture was one of the main factors generating the agricultural crisis of 1982-83, the worst one in the present century, leading to dramatic falls in the production of almost all agrarian stuffs. This agricultural crisis came together with the general collapse of the neo-liberal economic model.
1 shows, in seven years the military government reduced the staff of the ministry to a fifth of the number of officials working there in 1973. The radical application of the neo-liberal precepts since 1975 is reflected in the fast pace of the dismissals. So during the first six months of 1976 the Chicago boys reduced the staff of the Ministry by 40 per cent.
