Dr. ” People get along on imperfect nutrition just as corn plants growing in a field and producing 10 bushels per acre instead of 200 bushels, which is possible. A perfect food environment is as rare as a perfect climatic environment. In a perfect climatic environment, the temperature day and night, the humidity, the rainfall, the wind and the sunshine would always be right. One of the reasons why we need good nutrition is to feed our brains. The brain is a “hot-spot” of chemical activity. An adult brain weighs only 3 to 4 percent of the whole body weight, but the chemical burning which takes place in the brain may be 25 percent of the [body’s] total.

Passwater, in this book, states that vitamins and other dietary nutrients may be crucial in accounting for these differences. In 1970, Linus Pauling shocked the world by publicizing evidence that vitamin C prevented and cured illnesses other than scurvy. He pointed out that the effect on the common cold appeared to demand a daily intake of upward of 1 gram of vitamin C—an amount much higher than that recommended by the established authorities. Controversy continues to swirl about Dr. Pauling and his ideas in spite of the fact that all the double-blind studies made to test his observations have supported him.

Projections based on the research detailed in all the above mentioned chapters lead me to believe that if people followed the Supernutrition program: 1. Heart disease would be reduced by 60–80 percent. 2. Cancer would be reduced by 30–40 percent. 3. Air pollution damage to the human body would be reduced by 95 percent. 4. The cure rate for schizophrenia would be increased by 500 percent. 5. Arthritis and other crippling diseases would be reduced by 40 percent. 6. The incidence and severity of all types of diseases would be reduced by 40 percent.
