This quantity is a set of papers, preceded by means of an introductory essay, on coastal physiography. all of the authors have made major contributions to the topic. they're of alternative nationalities and the papers are, intentionally, now not all contemporary ones. during this ebook emphasis has been laid totally on issues that are of normal instead of neighborhood or maybe local price.

Environment of deposition. - Many of the thicker beds show sedimentary structures indicating current deposition. Few distinct grading has been found, however, and the sharp boundaries to the shale/marly partings seem rather to be due to diagenetic overprint (cf. KALIN et al. 1979). A pelagic sediment, periodically reworked by bottom currents, with eventual input of dilute turbidity currents depositing more calcareous laminae, would reflect the deep pelagic depositional environment. In the uppermost part of the formation, the dilute calcareous input steadily increases and seems to be the forerunner of the coarse clastic Kandhia Breccia.

And occasional small involutinids. This part of the section corresponds to (5) of KOTTEK (1966, p. 30) and is dated by him by the presence of Protogrammoceras portisi as Domerian. The crinoidal calcarenites have a sharp upper surface plated by siliceous crusts, which may be interpreted as minor hiatuses. 9b). Soft nodular marls and up-section increasingly harder, less marly limestones constitute the pelagic sediment. , Frondicularia sp. and Globochaete alpina LOMBARD. Questionable molds of radiolarians occur in the upper part.

Two samples are discussed in BAUMGARTNER et al. (1980) and BAUMGARTNER (1984b). They derive from the type section, POB 1050, 2 m above the base of the formation, and POB 284, about 4 m below the top of the formation. Both assemblages are assignable to Zone B (BAUMGARTNER 1984a, b), which corresponds to a late Oxfordian/early Kimmeridgian age.
